We are seeking a highly motivated Business Development Strategist (BDS) with a background in both business and STEM to support our growth strategy focused on helping businesses digitally transform their scientific R&D organizations. The ideal candidate will have skills spanning market research, strategic analysis, and sales enablement to help drive our account-based growth strategy. This role is critical in developing data-driven recommendations, tools, and materials that empower our sales and marketing teams to identify, target, and engage high-value clients in domains such as specialty chemicals, manufacturing, energy, pharmaceuticals, and biotechnology.
Responsibilities
- Market and Industry Research
- Conduct in-depth research on and analyze market trends, competitive dynamics, and emerging opportunities in target industries
- Synthesize findings into artifacts (reports, summaries, presentations) to inform growth strategies and tactics
- Target Company and Persona Analysis
- Compile comprehensive dossiers on target companies, including key company facts, business challenges, and strategic goals.
- Identify potential opportunities where our services add value, and uncover competitive threats.
- Research key personas within target organizations, including roles, responsibilities, motivations, and contact information, to facilitate lead generation, demand generation, and sales prospecting.
- Data Analysis and Insight Development
- Analyze and synthesize research data to provide data-driven recommendations to support strategic and tactical decision-making.
- Create models, tools, and frameworks that support business development initiatives.
- Sales Enablement Support
- Create compelling business proposals and pitch decks tailored to prospective clients and partners based on deep research into specific industries, companies, personas, and individuals, highlighting opportunities and aligning solutions with their needs.
- Collaborate with other team members to support the creation of general sales tools and artifacts, such as value propositions, differentiation guides, and case studies, to enhance sales effectiveness across accounts.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Work closely with marketing, product development, and sales teams to ensure the research findings and strategic insights are incorporated effectively into company initiatives.
- Present findings and recommendations clearly and persuasively to internal stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Education
- MBA, or equivalent advanced degree or related business field
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant STEM field
- Experience
- 2+ years of experience in business development, market research, or a related analytical role
- Experience in scientific R&D-driven industries is highly desirable
- Skills
- Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into data-driven recommendations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex ideas and strategies to a range of stakeholders, including senior stakeholders
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and presentation software
- Familiarity with CRM systems, and Hubspot in particular, is a plus
- Ability to create compelling customer-facing sales materials
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple high priority initiatives simultaneously and meet deadlines reliably
- Track record of effective cross-functional collaboration
- Ability to inspire confidence, create trust, work under pressure, plan personal workload effectively, and delegate
