About Smart Infrastructure – Electrification and Automation:
The Electrification and Automation (EA) Business Unit offers the full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for all markets and through all sales channels. We provide reliable power distribution grids of today while investing into our Future Grids portfolio and applications to create the power distribution grid of the future. Our comprehensive portfolio meets the growing technical requirements of today’s and tomorrow’s power grid!
The EA Business Unit in Wendell, North Carolina, which is its U.S. headquarters, focuses on electric-vehicle charging, photovoltaic inverters, medium-voltage power distribution equipment including packaging and services, and solutions, including automation. Additionally, assembly of electric-vehicle chargers, low-voltage motor control centers, and retrofit and replacement circuit breakers occurs at the facility.
We are looking for a Head of Business Development. This position will be based in Wendell, NC, but can be fully remote.
We are seeking a strategic, results-driven Head of Business Development to lead and expand our market presence in the power distribution sector, specifically focused on supporting construction (EIS) and channel sales teams. You will drive growth across our portfolio of medium voltage switchgear, padmount switchgear, and low voltage motor control centers (MCCs). The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of the power distribution market, established industry relationships, and the ability to develop go-to-market strategies that resonate with electrical contractors, EPCs, distributors, and OEMs.
You’ll make an impact by:
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement national business development strategies targeting the construction sector and channel sales partners.
- Identify and prioritize high-growth markets, verticals, and partnerships aligned with product capabilities and market demand.
- Collaborate with product management and marketing to promote Siemens standard offerings to the served market.
- Collaborate with Transformation Office to support the development of digital tools to aid in sales growth in the served markets.
- Sales Enablement & Support:
- Support and empower regional sales teams focused on construction projects and channel partners (distributors, resellers).
- Provide technical and commercial guidance on product positioning, specifications, and value propositions.
- Lead pursuit strategies for large, strategic projects and contracts.
- Partnership & Channel Development:
- Expand and optimize relationships with electrical distributors, OEMs, contractors, and engineering firms.
- Negotiate channel agreements, joint marketing initiatives, and long-term supply partnerships.
- Market Intelligence & Forecasting:
- Track industry developments, competitor activity, and project pipelines in utility, commercial, and industrial segments.
- Provide regular forecasts, pipeline reviews, and reporting to executive leadership.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage a small team of business development or strategic accounts professionals (optional depending on org structure).
- Drive a performance-based culture focused on accountability and achievement of KPIs.
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in business development, sales, or commercial leadership within the electrical power distribution equipment industry.
- In-depth knowledge of medium voltage switchgear, padmount gear, and low voltage MCCs.
- Proven experience working with or supporting construction contractors, EPCs, distributors, and OEMs.
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to translate complex electrical solutions into business value.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Willingness to travel up to 30-50%, as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Business, or related field (MBA preferred).
- Existing network of decision-makers in construction, MEP, or energy infrastructure sectors.
- Familiarity with power distribution product standards, project bidding processes, and construction timelines.
- Experience integrating digital solutions or automation technologies into switchgear/MCC platforms.

The pay range for this position is $167,860 - $287,760 annually with a target incentive of 35% of the base salary. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
