Position Summary 

MBX Biosciences is looking for an experienced, strategic, and innovative leader to join our Executive Team as Senior Vice President of Business Development/ Chief Business Officer. This individual will play a crucial role in shaping and executing our corporate strategy, driving business development initiatives, and positioning the company for ongoing success in scientific, clinical, and financial terms. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in the metabolic or obesity therapeutic areas and a strong track record in corporate strategy, strategic partnerships, deal negotiation and integration, and intellectual property. This individual will bring a strong presence in investor relations and boardroom engagement and can thrive in a fast-paced, science-driven environment.  They will also serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO, providing insights that inform high-impact decisions and shape the long-term vision.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Development:
    • Lead corporate strategy development in partnership with the CEO and executive team, with a focus on identifying new therapeutic areas and indications within metabolic and obesity-related diseases.
    • Drive strategic planning processes, including long-range planning, scenario modeling, and portfolio prioritization.
    • Scout, evaluate, and lead execution of new business opportunities (e.g., in-licensing, out-licensing, R&D, and commercial partnerships).
    • Support the CEO’s engagement with the Board of Directors by preparing and delivering strategic updates and business development insights.
  • Business Development & Partnership Integration:
    • Originate, negotiate, and close strategic partnerships, collaborations, and licensing agreements to support pipeline expansion and growth objectives.
    • Lead potential deal partnership integration efforts to ensure successful scientific, operational, and cultural alignment. Establish key measures of success to ensure patient and financial objectives are met.
    • Maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders across the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and academia sectors to identify high-value opportunities.
  • Capital Formation & Strategy:
    • Partner with the Chief Executive Officer and the Chief Financial Officer to shape investor communications, corporate messaging, and investor relations strategy.
    • Support capital-raising initiatives by engaging in investor meetings, roadshows, and industry conferences.
    • Develop strategic content that articulates scientific differentiation and MBX’s competitive advantage in the marketplace.
  • Innovation and Pipeline Expansion:
    • Lead the charge in identifying, evaluating, and developing new avenues for growth, including promising platform extensions and adjacent metabolic indications.
    • Anticipate industry shifts by actively monitoring competitive intelligence, breakthrough scientific developments, and evolving regulatory trends across the metabolic and endocrine landscape.

Education& Qualifications 

  • A bachelor’s degree (MBA preferred) in Business, Life Sciences, or a related discipline is required. An MBA and/or experience in investment banking is preferred.
  • Minimum of 20+ years of progressive leadership experience in business development or strategic partnerships within the healthcare or life sciences industry, with a strong preference for a focus on obesity or metabolic areas. 
  • Leadership experience in an industry setting, with a demonstrated ability to manage multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, strategic thinking, and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated excellence in leading teams and aligning cross-functional efforts. Outstanding interpersonal skills, self-awareness, and ability to manage team dynamics.
